Where to eat and drink near the beach in Tulum

Because there’s so many good places and the town is divided into two main areas, the town actual and the beach area, we’ve divided the food list too. Here’s our guide to eating along the Jungle road and on the beach in Tulum. Just a note, since you’re down by the hotels where the people with money are more likely to stay, you’ll be paying more for your food.

Mateos
Their sign outside said ‘Best fish tacos in the World’. It was a big call, but I wanted in. Mike ordered the Mayan Octopus, the special and we both sat there and ate. Like pigs in mud we were. The place is cool and the waiters were great too. So I would recommend you have lunch (or dinner) at this place when you go past.

Zamas
Zamas is a hotel and restaurant with a stunning spot right on the beach. Around the side of the restaurant we sat, sipping our margaritas and beers, having a nice time. Afterwards we swam in the crystal clear, blue warm waters. We were happy with this place.

Maria del Mar Tulum
Because this place had an arrangement with our hotel back in the town, we were able to use their beach loungers and drink their drinks which was nice, considering it was a little flasher than what we had paid to stay in. Again they’ve got their own beach, but wasn’t great for swimming when we were there. Instead we ordered drinks and just took in the views.

Safari
Meat cooked on an open fire right in front of you, delightful tacos, delicious ceviche. This place is worth a visit. We visited after a dip in the cenote next door and it was a perfect end to the day and provided enough energy for the cycle home. 😉

Coco Tulum Hotel
Ever since I’d seen this place on Instagram, I needed to go. It’s as beautiful as expected, with everything painted white, off-set against the stunning blue sea and skies. We ordered drinks and lunch here and man the food was great.  If you’re wondering the fish ceviche tostadas inn the feature photos was from here. This place is full of beautiful people, not sure that we quite fitted in, but hey. Stunning. Loved it.

Tata Tulum Hotel
We stopped for drinks here and it just happened to be a spot on the most glorious part of the beach in Tulum. Unlike Coco, it was quiet, not full of ‘cool kids’ and a quiet place to relax with a drink. And the corn. Amazing. You have to order it!
