Chiang Mai – A coffee lovers heaven

The northern city of Chiang Mai is pretty special. There’s good coffee everywhere and a bunch of cafes to get it. We love our coffee and because there’s no end of places to pick up an iced cold or velvety smooth coffee, it’s pretty much a hipster-coffee-loving-paradise. Here’s the list of the places we hit up and would go back to.

Mountain Coffee

This place is pretty special, the owner roasts his own beans on Sunday. Sadly, we missed the main event, but he was happy to show us the very basic but effective equipment he uses. The coffee was great and we would have loved to have bought some beans to take home, except customs laws into NZ prevent such a thing. Ah well, we have the fond memories and the beautiful photo of the wall outside to remember this place.

A small but nice wee café tucked away in the quiet streets of central Chiang Mai.  The coffee is good and the place is perfect for a mid-afternoon sit down and recharge. Due to its size – perfect for couples, not so much for groups.

Ristr8to

This place comes up in all the lists, as an Australian-owned café in the stylie Nimmanhaemin Road, it will be busy when you turn up because the coffee is probably the best you’ll find in Thailand. Just look at that texture on that thing. Also, they have a large menu and serve a brew in a skull glass if you’re into that. I am.

Burkta

This place is tucked away next to the co-working space, Punspace so you probably won’t find it unless you’re looking for it. It was quiet when we stopped by, but that’s not to say it’s not worth visiting. Nice space for a sit down and there’s some street art around the neighbouring alley-ways, so do visit.

Tiger Ted Café

So, if you’re on your way back from the Chiang Mai zoo, or that side of town, grab yourself an iced coffee from Tiger ted. It’s kinda like a tree-house but made out of containers.
