Where we were staying was handy to the strip of bars and restaurants on the right side of the island. I would recommend a similar location, giving you all the choices for lunch, dinner and drinks. But one of the things we loved most about the island, was the simple and delicious food options you could get right on the beach, or from a cart on the side of the road. A hawker on the beach offering mango and pineapple was an incredible experience, while the corn on the cob rivalled that offered only on Gili T.
We also liked the following places.
Raja Restaurant
Maybe one of the more upmarket restaurants on the island, they were pretty much right on the beach, had a large menu and selection of foods, nice cocktails and a band playing in the evening. The perfect spot to meet up with a friend we’d met earlier on our travels.
Ziip
Ziip was so good we ate here two nights. The first night was one of those perfect evenings, where you make the most of happy hour, love the food and sit right on the beach. We came back the next night, and while the food was just as good, inside the restaurant was the place to be, with the monsoon rains falling outside.
Would totally recommend this place for a chilled out vibe and good dinner.
Sunrise
We chose this place for an iced coffee on our last morning, as we’d been eyeing it up for the duration of our stay on Gili Air. Set on the beach, and with a nice set up and seating air, it was perfect for our final beverage in the Gilis. Wish we’d visited sooner.
